Street Sense battles Grasshopper in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes for 3-year-olds at Saratoga on Aug. 25, 2007.

Street Sense could run in any of five preps or train up to the Classic.

Street Sense, Curlin, Any Given Saturday and Hard Spun are pointed toward the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Monmouth Park on Oct. 27, but they will probably take different paths to get there. Story

City Place colt tops August Sale finale

Hip No. 1443, a colt by City Place consigned by Rebah Farm, Agent, went to Manor Farm for $75,000 to top the final Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2007 August Yearling Sale. The bay colt is out of Kwestionable Kiss, by Kissin Kris, a half sister to stakes placed Linda Love.

Webster Training Center, Agent, purchased Hip No. 1437, a Spanish Steps filly consigned by Perrone Sales, Ltd., Agent, for $60,000. The dark bay or brown filly is out of Kitty Comedy, by Tabasco Cat, a half sister to stakes placed The Hess Express.

Hip No. 1222, a colt by Put It Back consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, went to Eisaman Equine for $50,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Flautist (GB), by Lion Cavern, a daughter of graded stakes winner Melodist.

Hip No. 1397, a colt by Congaree consigned by On Course Sales, Agent, was sold for $50,000 to Quarter Pole Enterprises, LLC. The bay colt is out of stakes winner Jera, by Jeblar.

For the session 180 horses grossed $1,656,000 compared with 202 horses bringing a total of $1,800,700 at last year’s final session. The average was $9,200, up 3.2% from $8,914 last year, while the median price was $6,000 compared with $5,850 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 29.9%; it was 25.5% in 2006.

Overall, the four Open sessions saw 778 horses sell for a total of $9,047,400, compared with 819 yearlings bringing a sale record total of $9,127,500 last year. The Open Sale average was $11,629, up 4.3% compared with $11,145 last year, while the median price was $7,000, compared with $6,500 in 2006. The buyback percentage was 27.4%; it was 26.7% last year.

The Open sale topper was Hip No. 971, a colt by Alphabet Soup consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, and sold to Manor Farm for $185,000 The gray or roan colt is out of B Gone Blues, by Gone West, a daughter of graded stakes winner Beal Street Blues.

At Monday’s Selected session, 167 yearlings sold for a total of $9,679,500 compared with last year’s sale record total of $10,427,500. The average price was $57,961 compared with last year’s sale record $59,247. The median price was a sale record $50,000, surpassing the $45,000 median posted last year and in 2004. The buyback percentage was 25.1%; it was 32.3% a year ago. The sale topper was Hip No. 147 a colt by Cape Canaveral consigned by Janie Roper, Agent, and sold to Kenneth McPeek, Agent, for $210,000. Out of Caveat Apt, by Chief’s Crown, the chestnut colt is a half brother to graded stakes winner Crowned Dancer.

Next on the OBS agenda is the Fall Mixed Sale, with 1,505 horses cataloged to sell beginning Monday, October 8th and continuing through Friday, October 12th.

Alphabet Soup colt tops Open Yearling Sale’s third session

Hip No. 971, a colt by Alphabet Soup consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, went to Manor Farm for $185,000 to top the third Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2007 August Yearling Sale. The gray or roan colt is out of B Gone Blues, by Gone West, a daughter of graded stakes winner Beal Street Blues.

Hip No. 968, Bow Tie Pasta, filly by Champali consigned by Land of Oz, Agent, was sold to W R C Thoroughbreds, Inc. for $62,000. The bay filly is out of Betty Spaghetti, by Honour and Glory.

Hip No. 1021, a colt by Spanish Steps out of stakes winner Cailoto, by Let’s Go Blue, went to Martin Stables, Inc. for $40,000. The bay colt was consigned by Perrone Sales, Ltd., Agent.

Quarter Pole Investment, LLC also paid $40,000 for Hip No. 1082, a colt by Gimmeawink consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent. The bay colt is out of Countrywishingwell, by Country Pine, a full sister to stakes winner Springinthecountry.

Hip No. 1111, a colt by Peace Rules consigned by Peggy S. Dellheim, Agent, went to Vinery Stables for $40,000. The bay colt, out of Danzig Tiger, by Danzig Connection, is a half brother to stakes placed Tyger River.

For the session, 187 horses sold for a total of $2,036,300, compared with 200 horses grossing $1,837,700 at the corresponding session a year ago. The average price was $10,889, up 18.5% from $9,189 in 2006, while the median price was $6,000, up 20% from $5,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 30.9%; it was 28.3% last year

Macho Uno colt tops second session of Open Yearling Sale

Hip No. 580, a colt by Macho Uno consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to Marquez Brothers Stables for $150,000 to top the second Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2007 August Yearling Sale. The bay colt is out of grade one stakes placed Secret of Mecca, by Mecke.

Hip No. 795, a colt by Repent consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock (Brent & Crystal Fernung), Agent, went for $82,000 to Gustavo Ravelo. The bay colt is out of Twisted Truth, by Distorted Humor, a half sister to graded stakes winner Lies of Omission.

Hip No. 612, a colt by Performing Magic consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was sold to Newmarket / Best for $67,000. The chestnut colt is out of Shot Gun Frances, by Commemorate, and is a half brother to stakes winner Shot Gun Favorite.

Hip No. 747, Choice Rate, a colt by Exchange Rate consigned by Michelle Redding, Agent, was purchased by Eisaman Equine for $51,000. The gray or roan colt is out of Terri’s Choice, by West Acre, a half sister to stakes winner Savannah Canon.

For the session, 193 horses grossed $2,498,500, compared with 201 horses selling for a total of $2,545,500 at the corresponding session in 2006. The average price was $12,946, up from $12,664 a year ago, while the median price was $7,500 compared with $8,000 in 2006. The buyback percentage was 27.7%; it was 28.7% last year. Six horses brought $50,000 or more compared with five in 2006.

Sky Classic filly tops first session of Open Yearling Sale

Hip No. 495, a filly by Sky Classic consigned by Kaizen Sales, Agent, went to Newmarket/Best for $82,000 to top the first open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2007 August Yearling Sale. The dark bay or brown filly is out of Rainbow Strike, by Smart Strike, a daughter of stakes winner Fluffkins.

Hip No. 491, an Essence of Dubai colt consigned by Perrone Sales, Ltd., Agent, was sold to Oxbow Racing for $80,000. The bay colt is out of Radyla, by Country Pine, a half sister to stakes winner Attack the Books.

Hip No. 384, a colt by Mizzen Mast consigned by Country Road Farm, Agent, went to P. A. Everard, Agent, for $75,000. The bay colt is out of Organ Transplant, by Mt. Livermore, a half sister to graded stakes winner Perfect Cat.

Hip No. 556, a filly by Trippi consigned by Kaizen Sales, Agent, went to Marquez Brothers Stables, LLC, for $70,000. The bay filly, out of stakes placed Salty Lady, by Salt Lake, is a half sister to graded stakes winner Brooke’s Halo.

Hip No. 489, a filly by Scrimshaw consigned by Price Thoroughbreds, Agent, was purchased by Whitehall Lane Farm for $65,000. The dark bay or brown filly is out of Radcliffe Yard, by Boston Harbor, a daughter of graded stakes winner Forest Fealty.

For the session, 218 horses sold for a total of $2,856,600, compared with 216 horses bringing $2,943,600 in last year’s first Open session. The average price was $13,104 compared with $13,628 a year ago, while the median price was $8,000, identical to the median in 2006. The buyback percentage was 21.6%; it was 24.5% a year ago.

The Open Yearling Sale continues Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. and runs through Friday.

Cape Canaveral colt tops Selected Yearling Sale

Hip No. 147, a colt by Cape Canaveral consigned by Janie Roper, Agent, went to Kenneth McPeek, Agent, for $210,000 to top the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2007 Selected Yearling Sale. Out of Caveat Apt, by Chief’s Crown, the chestnut colt is a half brother to graded stakes winner Crowned Dancer.

Nick de Meric, Agent, went to $200,000 for Hip No. 42, a colt by Spanish Steps out of Poquito Polly, by Ogygian, Consigned by Martin Stables South, the dark bay or brown colt is a half brother to graded stakes winner Feisty Countess, dam of sensational juvenile filly Rated Feisty.

Hip No. 121, a filly by Harlan’s Holiday consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was sold to M. S. T. S. for $185,000. The bay filly is out of stakes winner Zealous Folia, by Unreal Zeal.

Hip No. 218, a filly by Lion Heart out of Hoxsey, by Deputy Minister, went to Leprechaun Racing, Agent, for $175,000. The chestnut filly was consigned by Abbie Road Farm (Lisa McGreevy), Agent.

For the day, 167 yearlings sold for a total of $9,679,500 compared with last year’s sale record total of $10,427,500. The average price was $57,961 compared with last year’s sale record $59,247.
