Kaplan’s Storm in May heads a roster of 28 nominees to the thirteenth running of the $50,000 Florida Thoroughbred Charities Stakes, to be run at OBS on Monday, February 11th as part of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s Day of Champions presented by Darley. The five furlong race for three and up, to be run on OBS’ new all-weather Safetrack surface, is restricted to the progeny of stallions whose seasons were offered at the 2004 Florida Thoroughbred Charities Live Auction at OBS and the Silent Auction. In addition to the first-place share of the purse, the winner will receive a non-transferable live foal 2008 or 2009 season to Kafwain. more

First ‘Punch’

Ginger Punch captures the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. The Distaff was one of eight races pitting Florida-breds against California-breds at Gulfstream and Santa Anita.

Heavy favorite Ginger Punch claimed the Distaff at Gulfstream Park.

Eclipse Award winner Ginger Punch followed up her 2007 Breeders’ Cup Distaff title with a win in the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff on Saturday, her first race of the year. Story | Watch

Hip No. 548, Leyenda Dorada, a 6-year-old mare by Gold Legend consigned by Derby Daze Farm, Agent, was sold to Adena Springs for $50,000 to top the first Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2008 Winter Mixed Sale. The stakes winning bay mare is out of Itsallgreytome, by Vigors, and was a champion in Puerto Rico. more

Hip No. 151, a yearling colt by Posse consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock (Brent & Crystal Fernung), Agent, went to Josham Farms Limited, Agent, for $95,000 to top the Consignor Preferred session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2008 Winter Mixed Sale. The chestnut colt is out of stakes placed Navarro Rose, by Native Prospector, a half sister to stakes winner Dayla. more

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2008 Winter Mixed Sale starts Wednesday, January 16th. A total of 948 horses are cataloged for the three-day sale, which begins with 248 horses in a Consignor Preferred Session. The Open Sale begins Thursday, January 17th with 360 horses cataloged and concludes Friday, January 18th with the remaining 360 horses. All sessions begin at 11:00 a.m. more
